Ulthera

Ulthera™ - nonsurgical lifting

Ulthera™ is a revolutionary procedure that can, for the first time in history, replace plastic surgery operations, because of its spectacular effects. That is why this procedure is also frequently applied by plastic surgeons themselves as an alternative to invasive surgical action. Owing to remarkable results obtained after every single procedure, it has become very popular with actors, actresses and celebrities. In Poland, this method is being promoted by Boguslaw Linda, among others. It is worth emphasizing that even one procedure produces an excellent outcome; a face looking several years younger.

The Ulthera™ procedure unquestionably lifts, remodels and tones up your face. Removes or reduces:

  1. wrinkles
  2. abundant upper eyelid skin
  3. low eyebrows
  4. drooping eyelids
  5. flaccidity and sagging cheeks
  6. deep nasolabial folds
  7. drooping mouth corners
  8. flaccid chin and neck
  9. loss of jawline

Contraindications to performing the Ulthera™ procedure:

- pregnancy and breastfeeding (lack of clinical tests)

- skin diseases (including acne)

- open wounds or any other skin lesions in areas of skin to be treated

- coagulation disorders

- installed metal and bioabsorbable implants or pacemakers

- oncological diseases

- serious and unbalanced systemic diseases (kidney failure, diabetes, unstable ischaemic heart disease, collagenosis)

Procedure in progress

The procedure is performed by an aesthetic medicine physician. This specialist begins with initial diagnostics that consists in a visualisation of the patient’s subcutaneous tissue and an evaluation of the depth in which the procedure will be performed. Then, the physician is ready for the main part of therapy and focuses a specifically adjusted beam of ultrasound on the selected areas of skin. The physician has at his disposal a variety of heads that allow emitting streams of concentrated energy. These streams can work at different frequencies and penetrate different depth levels, depending on the properties of a selected area. Such intervention causes immediate shrinkage of tissues by coagulating. Multilevel procedures produce better results. Lifting precision is enabled and fully controlled by ultrasound imaging of tissues.

Depending on the size of the treated area, each Ulthera™ session lasts from 20 to 90 minutes.

One procedure is sufficient to obtain satisfactory effect.

The effects gradually appear after the procedure. This process can last from 3 to 6 months because that is how long it takes for new collagen to build up and mature. The result continues for 24 months at a minimum, or – according to the latest research – for 5 years; it is conditioned by the Patient’s individual characteristics. The procedure can be repeated.

Skin after the procedure is not in need of any regeneration, and the Patient can immediately return to everyday activities. The treated area may be marked by mild erythema that will not last longer than 2 hours. In single cases, there happens to be a small swelling on the skin for two days, at the longest.

Working principle of the Ulthera device

Ulthera ™ is an innovative type of procedures in the field of aesthetic medicine that allows non-invasive penetration into the skin. The Ulthera™ System is the first such project in history that combines ultrasound imaging with focused ultrasound energy in order to ensure predictable lifting and improvement for flaccid skin by directly influencing connective tissue and dermis. Now, the procedure can be carried out in all areas of the face and the neck. The innovative character of this procedure lies in initiating the natural regenerative processes of the skin by stimulating fibroblasts so that they can produce new collagen fibres.

Thanks to the DeepSEE™ technology introduced by Ulthera ™, aesthetic medicine physicians can see through skin tissue to a depth of 8 mm and administer treatment at each selected depth. Ulthera™ makes it possible to perform a procedure at three different depths: from 1.5 mm to 8 mm beneath the skin surface. This allows the physician to precisely evaluate and determine the adequate depth for giving treatment without breaking the epidermal continuity, whilst the safety of the procedure is guaranteed by ultrasound imaging. The ultrasound technology enables the effect of surgical lifting with no need for even a minimal invasive penetration into the tissue.

Safety of the procedure

The introduction of the Ulthera™ device was preceded by extensive clinical tests conducted at internationally renowned institutions, such as: University of California in San Diego, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, Wellman Center for Photomedicine in Massachusetts General Hospital. 1000 patients from all over the world were subject to such tests. That introduction revealed a perfect safety profile and significant, repeatable results. The clinical tests did not prove that there were any delayed nerve or blood vessel problems.

The safety and uniqueness of the Ulthera™ System was confirmed by being granted 2009 FDA certification (de novo). The “de novo” tag points out that there exists no other similar device on the market. Moreover, Ulthera was granted Certificate of Conformance (CE Mark) in 2008 and Health Canada Certification in 2009.
